MASTERS OF FORMULA 3 AT ZANDVOORT ATTRACTS 25-CAR FIELD

Masters of F3 Zandvoort 2013Monday, July 3rd 2013 - The Masters of Formula 3 has attracted a 25-car entry for this weekend's race at Zandvoort.

Europe's traditional F3 blue-riband race will be fought out by most of the teams from the F3 European Championship, although three of the regular drivers from these teams will be absent.

Local squad Van Amersfoort Racing is likely to be down to one car as Swede Mans Grenhagen could not raise the budget to compete alongside Dennis van de Laar.

Team boss Frits van Amersfoort said: "It looks like we will keep the car on the sidelines. We have tried some things but it's not going to work. We're working on a solution for Mans for the rest of the season."

Meanwhile, Australian Mitchell Gilbert will be replaced at Mucke Motorsport for this race only by Japanese racer Yuhi Sekiguchi.

AUTOSPORT understands that Sekiguchi, who won the 2011 Japanese F3 title before finishing fourth with Mucke in the Macau Grand Prix, is contesting the event to qualify himself for a return to Macau this year. He is currently racing in Japanese GT.

Gilbert's manager Fraser Sheader said: "It wasn't part of Mitch's original plan. Doing the Masters is more of a luxury than a necessity."

The other change is that Anglo-Dane Emil Bernstorff will fill in for European championship leader Raffaele Marciello at Prema Powerteam.

The only European championship teams missing the event are URD Rennsport and Romeo Ferraris.
